A GUIDE TO WOOD FLOORING

Please use our guide to wood flooring for helpful tips and hints to help you avoid common pitfalls when fitting and maintaining your wood flooring.

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR ROOM FOR SQM

measure the length and width of your area then multiplying those two numbers together to get the area in meters squared.

When implementing this into your flooring order you must remember to always have at least 8% extra for cut offs.

THE BENEFITS OF WOOD FLOORING…

Wood flooring has a unique warmth and natural beauty. It enhances space at home or in an office environment providing not only initial impact but beauty which gains character with age.  It is also the healthy option as wood does not build up allergens or dust as a carpeted room will.

INSTALLING YOUR WOOD FLOORING

Being a natural product wood reacts to it’s environment. Too dry and it will contract and  create gaps between the flooring boards. Too much moisture and it can expand and warp. Consequently it is key that the sub-flooring preparation is correct and the installation expertly done.

MAINTAINING WOOD FLOORING

Solid wood flooring correctly fitted and maintained will last 25 years+. The colour may fade particularly in high traffic areas but your floor can be re-sanded and re-stained over it’s lifetime to preserve it’s looks and performance.

 Tips to maintain your flooring:

  • To prevent outside dirt spreading into the house use a doormat.
  • Consider taking off outside shoes when you come into the room
  • Clean the wood surface at least once a week
  • LIGHTLY mop a lacquered floor with a damp mop
  • Use floor protector pads on chair legs, table legs
  • Don’t wax a lacquered floor, don’t lacquer a waxed floor and don’t use furniture polish on any wood floor!
  • Consider sanding or re-varnishing a lacquered wood floor every 10 years or so when it shows signs of wear . Waxed floors will need to be thoroughly cleaned every 6 months with fine grade wire before re-waxing.
  • If correctly fitted and maintained, your solid wood flooring should last 25 years +.
